On-Line Streaming Video: Creating a "TV Channel" for Your Business

Raleigh, NC, January 24, 2001 - Not too long ago, in order to watch video over the Internet, time-consuming downloads of necessary software of were required just to open multiple megabyte files. The result was a blurry, postage stamp-sized video. Ever improving technologies have since made these inconveniences history, and streaming audio and video content over the Internet has increased at unprecedented rates. Digital media agency, Myriad Media, has incorporated streaming video with the latest MPEG-4 technology into its newly launched corporate website, www.myriadmedia.net.

Streaming video can change the way businesses communicate with their customers and educate their employees. Bottom line, using video is dynamic. It's an informative and entertaining way to get a message out. On-line video has hundreds of potential uses. A few include: announcing a new product; showcasing a portfolio; teaching classes; delivering quarterly earnings from the company CEO- all from your PC.

The Internet, with the help of cutting-edge video technology, has provided new promotional power to anything and everyone. The flexibility of video is proven by tangible benefits such as: low distribution costs (it can be emailed or posted to a website), targeted and timely messages, ease-of-use, and its memorable delivery format that allows an audience to place visuals with the communication.

Another important note for video via the Internet is that new content is optional. For example, a video previously used for a tradeshow can be easily converted for use on the company website or put on a promotional CD and/or DVD for the sales team.

"We can breathe new life into existing new hire videos, training tapes or instructional seminars that are sitting on a shelf somewhere collecting dust," Feichter says. "Using existing content can be very valuable and a solid starting point in establishing a multimedia presence. The bonus to all of this is that additional mileage can be gained from a year-old investment. Normally this wouldn't happen."

Myriad is one the first Triangle media companies to kick off a website using the MPEG-4 platform. MPEG, short for Moving Picture Experts Group, is a method of encoding audio-visual information in a digital compressed format.

"With MPEG-4 the viewer sees VHS quality video while the file size of the finished media remains small," explains Ricardo Roberts, Myriad's digital media producer. In fact, the video is capable of expanding to full-screen with surprising playback integrity right over the Internet." It's also easier to view video clips hassle-free because of user-friendly software such as Apple's QuickTime or Microsoft's Windows Media Player.
